I look forward to receiving the order, when growing up in Savannah playing half rubber with whatever stick and balls we could find I’d never have dreamed I’d be ordering using them over something called the internet with a computer instead of just picking them up at the corner family owned store.

Thanks for keeping the game alive down there and I’ll try to convert some Virginians to it over the upcoming holiday weekend at the Outer Banks!

I am from Savannah but live in Atlanta now. Some friends and I get together (in Atlanta) most Sundays to play half rubber. If anyone would like to call me, we would be happy to include you in our Sunday games.

The tournament was a big success; I was actually turning teams down because it was getting too big! I had such a good response from the tournament, that we're starting a league toward the beginning of August.

"I just played halfrubber for the first time this weekend down in Savannah, GA. Can't wait for my own set. I am planning a trip up to Canada the weekend of August 18th, and am hoping to introduce the game to all of my family and friends up north. I hope we get them in time. Thanks a lot!"

I am so excited to share the game with the rest of my immediate and extended family. We used to play a parent's vs. kids softball game at our annual family reunions, but since us kids have grown up (and the ball goes so much further) we haven't had a game we could play. I think Half rubber will be the new tradition!

I have been like a kid waiting for Santa Claus this week. Every time I hear a truck drive thru the cul-de-sac I get up from my desk and see if it is my half rubber gear. Hopefully today or tmrw so we can play this weekend.

Well I appreciate the effort keeping this alive. My friend showed me the game camping a while go and I got hooked. I haven't heard anything of it since. I go to NC State and I plan on this being something that my friends and I do all of the time.

Thank you. My roommate and I have been trying to find these things for 2 years. We lost our last 2 in August 2004 in British Columbia. The Canadians couldn't understand why we played with only half a ball. I even drove from Athens to Savannah and back one day to try the surf shops. No one even knew what I was talking about.

Thanks for all you help.....We went to Hilton Head last weekend...played with balls that were to small...but we still had a great time....I had not thrown a half rubber in over 20 years....we use to play every Sunday...my arm is still sore .... maybe we will see you in a tourney one day...again thanks for bringing back some old memories..

Thanks for confirming the order. To answer your question, last summer I was in New York City visiting some friends and one of them had half rubber. I believe he is originally from SC. Anyway, we wound up playing half rubber for a couple of hours in Central Park and just thought it was such a great game. I have been meaning to order it but for one reason or another never got around to it. Can t wait to introduce the game to all my friends here in Illinois! Thanks again,

Got the package Friday Morning. Thanks again. It was a big hit with everyone. You can probably be expecting some more orders coming your way from Missouri.

"I know for a fact that halfrubber was played in Charleston at least as far back as the late 1920s. I played the game with a rubber ball cut in half that I bought at the Kress store on King Street and a broom handle cut from my mother's broom. That was in 1939, and I learned it from my brother-in-law who was 15 years older than me........I hope this sets the record straight...."

"We played this game for years on the beach at Tybee Island and in the Squares of Savannah. I purchased Land Shark. A group of old Savannah friends, now in our mid to upper 60's, gather in Savannah every 6 months to celebrate our spent youth and the focal point of our gathering is a Halfrubber tournament. The younger people who see us play are all interested in this "new" game and usually ask if we played this on the streets of New York! We are always happy to explain the game (in our best southern accent) and allow them to try it out. We are doing our part to rejuvenate interest in the game every time we play. Good luck with your business and thanks from a group of old halfrubber players from Savannah! "

"My daddy was born in Savannah and taught me the game at an earl age. Even at 60, he can frustrate my nephews with some nasty pitching! "

  • Tim Cooper of Statesboro, GA

"Wow....a HalfRubber Website! Nice! I'm an old player from Savannah (36) and I love to play every chance I get! I live in Colorado now and I can't find anyone out here who has ever heard of it much less knows how to play it. I sure can appreciate a well thrown "grass cutter"! My family - the Hutson's or Savannah Greys were 1980's National Champions!! We have enjoyed playing HafRubber for years now and will continue to play it at our family reunions. I am thankful to know that there are fans alike that love the game as much as we do! "

  • Dave Hutson of Colorado

"My father brought the first halfrubber ball home with I was but 9 years old. We played until there was literally no more ball to pitch. That was in the 50's and we would scrape and save our pennies so that we could buy another ball. In those days it was no more than $.25 for a ball. We loved the game and grew up playing, sometimes under a street light well after dark. I am so glad you have this website and are promoting this game. "

"Just wanted to let you know that we are having loads of fun now with our 60 halfrubber balls. Played with three youth in the cold outside last Saturday - who needs a beach? Forrest Of I enjoy introducing the youth of our area to the game. I tease them about hitting the wrong half of the ball! Halfrubber is a fine southern tradition and it hurts me to see southern youth playing stick ball which as we all know is a less skillful and boring import from north of the Mason-Dixon line. I'm so glad that you are trying to keep the game alive. Over the last few years, I have been reduced to cutting a rubber baseball in half and as you know this produces a ball of incorrect diameter "

  • Rev. Johnny Hathatway of Guyton, GA

I played halfrubber as a boy nearly 20 years ago....I loved it then and will enjoy teaching the high school kids I work with the game. They will absolutely love this game. Thank you for your website.

  • Gary Davidson of Lilburn, GA

"I heard about half rubber just last week during a visit to GA. We only played for a half hour or so, but it was such fun I decided I needed my own! "

  • Jeff Peterman of Corvallis, OR

"Thanks for providing a place to get these half rubber balls. I'm a 45 year old native of Savannah. Growing up in the rural outskirts of town, and with such distances between homes, I only had a couple of kids my age to play with. As such, halfrubber was a great game. Now my family and I are in Marietta (my parents are still in Savannah) and I play the game as often as I can. Whenever we have a family reunion, you can be assured that someone will break out a stick and a couple of balls. (I keep several in my trunk). I've introduced a number of people to the game and every time (without exception), they take to it. "

  • Louise Richardson of Atlanta, GA

"I played some back in high school, mainly just pick up games with Dad and some friends. I ended up playing college ball and currently playing pro ball with the Anaheim Angels and never picked up the game again. It was an idea thrown out by my dad over the weekend and we searched every Wal Mart, Dollar Store, Sports store we could think of but found only 2 "half decent" balls. They lasted all of 30 minutes until they broke. The tomato sticks didn't last long either. Time to find some lasting equipment. Thanks again for your help... "

  • Derick Urquhart of Florence, SC

"....Then there are summer beach games. We like bocci, paddleball and half-rubber, the South Carolina coast's own homegrown stickball. Look at local grocery stores. The set-up is cheap adn easy to find. But hitting the half-rubber with the stick is hard. Good luck. Don't wear yourself out."
